Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation

Coming of Age in a Globalized World

"This thoughtful book offers documentation and analysis to help us understand the changes and connections throughout the world. Adams and Carfagna masterfully make clear the imperative of overcoming ignorance of the cultures, histories and languages of other societies. Globalization, they assert, means education!"

Former member, U.S. House of Representatives

What exactly is globalization and what does it mean for the future?

That pivotal question drove our efforts as we conceived and drafted Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation. We see change all around us and we hear constantly that we live in a global village and that we are increasingly interconnected and interdependent. Is it true? So then what?

The short answer is that it most certainly is true. Humanity is interwoven by many threads, and they grow stronger and longer each day. Professionals increasingly link their fortunes with those from afar, while significant challenges and problems transcend boundary lines. In an age of information overflow, though, it can be difficult to connect the dots and adapt to all that's new. To survive and succeed, individuals must increase their understanding of this interconnected world. And they must embrace global perspectives and viewpoints, for their own sake as much as for the benefit of humanity.

While our love for our country need not diminish, we must also look outward and expand our sphere of consideration. We must embrace the role of a world citizen, be able to flourish in diverse environments and act to defend the rights of people everywhere.

Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation is filled with information that may better explain our interconnected world. It may also contain some inspiration to start on the road toward embracing the concept of world citizenship. But mostly, this book is filled with hope that the next generation will help us overcome the problems that plague us and fulfill the promise of the future.
