New Course

Building from the publication of Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation, J. Michael Adams and Angelo Carfagna designed and developed a course called Globalization and World Citizenship. The course attempts to connect the dots about the changes in our world and to help students connect the meaning of globalization to their individual lives. While the class meets face-to-face, the course ventures regularly into the realm of cyberspace. In-depth outlines are posted on the Web and used in class, with links to reinforce particular topics. There are weekly online readings, online assignments and discussion forums. The design is intended to capture a generation who naturally view the Web as a primary resource.

As a semester project, students have to create a Web blog that examines a global problem and provides guides to action showing how individuals can make a difference.

To review the syllabus, course outlines, assignments and resources, go to http://webcampus.fdu.edu and use "fdu" as both the username and password. Or click here for more information.

United Nations Exhibit

Quotes from Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation were featured in an exhibit at the United Nations. The exhibit, titled "Afghanistan's Children and the Next Generation," showcased excerpts of the book along with photos from acclaimed photographer Steve McCurry. McCurry is perhaps best known for his haunting photograph of the green-eyed Afghan girl that was featured on the cover of National Geographic in 1985. A similar exhibit was held to celebrate the opening of Fairleigh Dickinson University's new campus in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and another exhibit featuring McCurry's photos and quotes from Coming of Age was held at the Morris Museum in Morristown, N.J.
